Groups, classes and support for families in Bournville
We’ve been part of life in the local community since 2011. You’ve probably seen us at the school gate, at the shops, or setting up for the next session. Come along. Everyone’s welcome.
What We Do
Here for families, right at the school gate
We run sessions at Bournville Primary School, Windwhistle Primary School, and across the local community. Cooking classes, parent groups, family activities, craft sessions — there’s always something on.
Some families come once and some become regulars, but there’s no pressure either way. All our sessions are free, and most don’t need booking. Just turn up.
Groups and Classes
From cooking sessions in the kitchen to pumpkin carving and lantern parades, our groups bring families together in relaxed, friendly settings. You don’t need to know anyone to come along — most people start by just turning up and seeing what it’s about.
Connection and Community
One of the things we value most is watching friendships form. People come along for the activity and end up finding support, company, and a sense of belonging through the families they meet. Many of these connections carry on completely independently of us, and that’s exactly how we hope it works.
Support When You Need It
Sometimes families need a bit more than a cooking class. We’re here to listen, to help you find the right support, and to connect you with organisations that can help. There are no referrals or waiting lists — just a conversation with someone who knows the area and the people in it.
Who We Are
Four people. Two schools. One community.
We’re a small team — Tamara, Alice, Kate and Cheryl — based right here in the local area.
XTND – Improving Futures is a registered charity (no. 1141966) that brings families together. We work with both primary schools and across the wider community, which means we’re already part of everyday life here. Our team know the schools, know the families, and chances are you’ve already met one of us at drop-off.

What parents and carers say about us
It’s really helped my mental health and gave me a reason to get out more. My little one has come on leaps and bounds.

I’ve made so many friends who I often meet with outside of group too. The team are wonderfully friendly and supportive.

I feel comfortable and accepted. I have full trust in the team to help with any issues.

It’s helped me meet other mums and build real friendships, which has had a positive impact on my mental health.
Parent
The group has built massive confidence within my daughter. She’s now comfortable playing with other children and being near adults.
Parent
I always recommend it to new parents. I’ve received helpful advice — not only about parenting, but about how nurseries and pre-schools work too.
Parent
There’s sensory stuff for the babies and balance bikes for the older kids, as well as just a chance to talk to other adults who know exactly how you feel.
Parent
I’ve watched my eldest come out of her shell thanks to the people who run it. It’s run with heart and passion.

Get Involved
We’re at the school gate most days, and out and about in the local area too.
Come along to a session, pop over for a chat, or just say hello — that’s how most people start. All our sessions are free, and most don’t need booking. If a session does need booking, we’ll say so on the listing.
